I have an important question for you.
What is the source of your happiness?
Stay with me for a minute. Don’t answer on auto-pilot. Take a breath and pause.
Do you feel that your happiness is dependent on your outer circumstances?
Do you say to yourself, “I’ll be happy when I nail that dream job?”
Or, “When I find that perfect someone my life will be complete?”
Did you know that August is national Happiness Month?
I imagine that if your life isn’t feeling, well…exactly happy as planned, just the idea of Happiness Month might feel depressing.
Don’t panic. I have the anecdote. It’s YOU.
You hold the key to happiness.
All it takes is a little discipline, commitment and desire for inner happiness.
The good news is. You don’t have to BE a neuroscientist to do the work. You simply follow their lead. And, the example of disciplined dedicated Yogis that came before you.
While it’s simple it does require stick-to-it-ness.
Science has proven that you can retrain and reprogram your brain. You probably know that already. It’s a pretty commonly held theory.
Yet, why are so many still walking around unhappy?
If you suspect that your unhappiness lies in the fact that you continue to search for it outside of yourself, then read on my friend.
Join me in this 28 day journey I’m calling “Happiness Starts Within.”
Mark your calendars and let’s go.
For 28 consecutive days commit to the following.
Keep an old-fashioned Gratitude Journal. Treat yourself and purchase a lovely new linen journal. Or a 99cent spiral notebook. Doesn’t matter. Simply write down every day ONE thing you’re grateful for.
Just before bed read it out loud to yourself or a beloved. Re-live the experience. See it. Smell it. Taste it. Feel it. Then close your eyes and let that be the last thought as you fall asleep.
At least 5 days of the week MOVE. Take a yoga class. Swim. Go for a walk on the beach, or a hike in the woods. Ride your bike. Like the Nike ad – just do it.
Pay the Happiness Forward. Do something sweet for someone. Offer a genuine thank you to the over-worked grocery cashier. Or drive your elderly neighbor to the doctor. Write a thank you note on lavender scented stationary and send it snail mail. Hold a loving space for a friend in need.
Be like the Dalai Lama – “my religion is kindness.”
As always thank you for reading and contributing. I really want to know how it goes. Return to this email after the 28 day journey and share your happiness ah-has.
May you know Happiness and the Source of Happiness.
